Sanibel City Hall - 800 Dunlop Rd

The Sanibel Farmers Market is back! It is held every Sunday from the first week in October through the last weekend in April from 8AM-1PM at Sanibel City Hall. It is the best place to buy local, fresh food and goods on the islands.

Before heading out to the Sanibel Farmers Market, there are a couple of things you should bring: CASH & REUSABLE BAGS!

Sanibel Farmers Market
Most of the vendors (if not all) only accept cash so be sure to stop by the ATM before you get out to the Sanibel Farmers Market. I suggest bringing around $50. Also, don't leave the house without reusable bags, because it is better to be green and only about half of the vendors have plastic bags. It is much more...

Sanibel 4th of July Parade

July 4, 2015 at 9 AM
Along Periwinkle Way

Day 21 of 100 Things to do on Sanibel & Captiva takes us to the Sanibel 4th of July Parade along Perwinkle Way. This annual event started 25 years ago by the Bissell Family. Most island business will have floats in the parade and will be tossing out candy and fun items. The parade begins at Bailey's Shopping Center at 9 am and continues down Periwinkle Way and ends at Bank of the Islands.

Sanibel 4th of July Parade

Be sure to come early to the Sanibel 4th of July Parade because the close the roads and you want to make sure you have a good spot. If you have a collapsable tent, bring one so you will have shade and be sure to bring chairs. I think the best place to park would be Periwinkle Place shops and find a spot in front on Periwinkle. If you get too far down at the end of the route many of the floats have already tossed out all of their goodies so many people are left empty handed. Avoid being at the very beginning and the very end of the parade because that is where the most people are and it is just a mob....

Day 20 of 100 Things to do on Sanibel & Captiva takes us off the island to the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Night Baseball Game at Hammond Stadium on June 17, 2015 featuring your Fort Myers Miracle against the Daytona Tortugas. Tickets are FREE and can be found at Bailey's General Store, Bank of the Islands, Jerry's Market. This is a great annual tradition started by the Bailey Family. It is a fun night of baseball, tailgating, parade, food and fun!

Islands Night gates open at 5:30PM, but most people start tailgating in the parking lot around 5PM. Many island businesses set up tents with food, drinks, music and fun so head over early and enjoy. Be sure to head inside no later than 5:45PM because you are going to want to grab your FREE Bubble Room Cake. Yes, we said it FREE BUBBLE ROOM CAKE! They go fast so look around the main concourse for their table. Then, head towards the field to find seats. You don't have assigned seats so they are on a first come, first serve basis.

At 6PM on Islands Night the Parade begins around the field. Many of the island businesses will have...

Day 19 of 100 Things to do on Sanibel & Captiva takes us to Easter Sunrise Service on March 27 at 6:30 AM on the Sanibel Causeway. This annual church service is offered by the Sanibel Community Church. The service is held on the Causeway Island closest to Fort Myers. Coffee and donuts will be provided. It really is spectacular seeing the sunrise over the bride while the service is going on! Here are a few tips for attending Easter Sunrise Service:

  • Show up early! Hundreds of people attend and there is not much parking. Be prepared to sit in traffic for a while on the bridge before and after the service.
  • Bring a folding or beach chair. Sanibel Community Church only sets up 50ish chairs which fill up fast so don't count on sitting there. You don't want to have to be standing the whole hour.
  • Bring a towel/blanket or wear a light jacket. Since you will be arriving while it is still dark out, it is normally a little chilly. It is nice to have a something to warm you up.

For more information be sure to check out the Sanibel Community Church website and the ...
